Opposition Objects for Kabila Named Congo Election Winner
The Democratic Republic of Congo’s president, Joseph Kabila, was formally proclaimed the winner of the highest presidential election since independence yesterday but the opposition described the result as a provocation besides said „the people will resist this fraud”.
Congo’s ballot commission said Mr Kabila, 35, won 58.05% of the vote against his definite opponent, Jean-Pierre Bemba, a former complainer warlord. The assignment rejected departure claims of widespread fraud and international observers said the ballot was largely fair.
